Oklahoma City tried to answer every shot of the Spurs and they even tied the score, 91 to end the fourth quarter and force an overtime. But Tim Duncan, after having a quiet game came up big and played as a veteran leading his team to a victory with 10 points in the extended five minutes alone and all in all had 19 points and fifteen rebounds to seal the victory.
Russel Westbrook was the leading scorer for the Thunder in that game with 34 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and six steals. Kevin Durant had 31 points and fourteen rebounds but still fell short to force a decisive Game 7.
The Spurs have never previously advanced to the Finals in two straight years, and their series victory avenges their loss to the Thunder in the 2012 Western Conference finals.
A rematch awaits the San Antonio in the Finals, where they lost to Miami in a classic seven-game series last year. Trailing 3-2, the Heat overcame a five-point deficit in the final 28 seconds of regulation in Game 6 and held on for another home victory in Game 7 to win their second straight title.
“We have four more games to win,” Tim Duncan said. “We’ll do it this time.”
The Spurs will have home-court advantage in the Finals, which will have a 2-2-1-1-1 format after this year’s change from 2-3-2. Game 1 is Friday (Philippine Time) in San Antonio.
