My online friends, especially those who are following this blog sent me messages through Facebook and email requesting me to make a post on the exact process on jailbreaking an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.
Guys, your queries about this intriguing process about iPhone, iPad and iPod touch will be answered by this simple post. First, let us define what is Jailbreaking. According to Wikipedia, Jailbreaking or iOS jailbreaking is a process that allows devices running Apple's iOS operating system (such as the iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch, and recently Apple TV) to gain full access (root access) to all features of the said operating system, thereby removing limitations imposed by Apple. In a layman's term, jailbreak simply means to unlock iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch.

How to Jailbreak:
Requirements in the jailbreaking process:
1. Plug your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch so that it will be recognized by iTunes.
2. Backup your device to your iTunes library.
3. Open the Spirit Jailbreak tool. It will open in a small window, and should display a message like "iPad (3.2) Connected." If not, disconnect and reconnect your device, and open the tool again.

7. Wait for about 30 seconds.
8. Your device should then boot up to your homescreen, as it was before—same background, same apps, same settings. Now you're iPod, iPad or iPod Touch is already jailbroken!

- iPod cable
- An iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch that a.) Isn't currently jailbroken (obvious, but just in case), b.) is working, i.e. not stuck in a startup loop, or displaying that "Connect to iTunes" screen and c.) is running a device software version 3.1.3 or lower (or in the case of the iPad, version 3.2)
1. Plug your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch so that it will be recognized by iTunes.

Disadvantages or risk in Jailbreaking:
- There is a real risk of breaking or losing data.
- But beyond that, there are stability issues with some jailbreak apps, and using apps like Backgrounder can seriously diminish your battery life. Also, flaunting your new found ability to tether your phone by running, say, torrents through your 3G connection is a good way to get in trouble with your carrier.
