After grabbing the lead in the post-paid sector, getting seven out of every ten new post-paid subscribers because of its unlimited (‘unli’) call and text offerings, Sun Cellular has decided to make the service permanent.
Because the company’s advanced network is designed for permanent 24/7 unlimited service, what started out as a promotion has now become a trademark which its rivals seemed unable to match and will be ‘here to stay,’ Sun Cellular executives confirmed.
“Unli’ will define competition in the years ahead, just like budget carrier Cebu Pacific, Sun’s sister company, changed the rules of the game in the airline industry, according to Bill Pamintuan, Senior Vice President of Digitel, Sun’s mother company.
“We can reduce a subscriber’s cost anywhere from 40 to 80 percent per month. We are efficient because we have the latest and the best equipment and technology,” he explained.
Competitors came up with their own versions of unlimited services but were forced to limit their to offerings to promos with a lot of restrictions after experiencing network congestion during peak demand. They even suspended their ‘unli’ promos last Christmas.
Like Sun Cellular, Cebu Pacific also offers substantially lower fares and brand-new Airbus aircraft, Atty. Pamintuan pointed out. Cebu Pacific is now the country’s No. 1 national flag carrier in terms of number of passengers carried.
At present, Sun is No. 1 in the post-paid sector in terms of number of subscribers, replacing Globe and has been getting seven out every ten new post-paid subscribers because of its unli services and lower rates, he confirmed.
Just recently, Sun introduced the industry’s lowest-priced unlimited post-paid plan at P150 per month.
The Sun Add-on Plan 150 comes with a free mobile phone, and a monthly Sun Text Unlimited allocation with four hours of free Sun-to-Sun calls.
It is open to existing and new subscribers applying for a regular post-paid account who want an additional line through the add-on post-paid plan. This is also offered to subscribers of Sun Broadband Plans.
