Tips on Monitoring Your Child’s Home Internet Use

Knowing what your children are doing on your home computer is as important as having one. You will probably need less computer repairs when they are being monitored. Children can easily say they are using the computer for many tasks, and we cannot, and should not want to stop them from using it. At the same time, we don’t want them to be using the computer for playing games and wasting time when they should be using the computer to get work done. This is the situation that many parents are confronted with. Here is a look at some solutions that will help you get around this sticky problem.
  • Computer Location. If your home computer is in a main room in your house, you will be able to physically monitor your children. Make sure the screen is against the wall. Many companies have even started to use this strategy. Open offices and computers that have the screens facing towards the centre of the office do result in less unwanted us by staff, and will have the same effect in your home. Computer use at home should include some fun, but work is to be done, it should be done. This is an effective and simple strategy for monitoring your child or children.
  • Monitoring Software. There are a number of applications you can install on your computer while your children are not present that they will be unaware of. These applications can send everything your child is doing on your computer via email to your smartphone or you can view the information later. Key-loggers track every key that is touched, while other programs take regular screen shots of the user’s activity. It is a good idea to tell your children this software is running to give them warning except if they know how to manipulate computers well. It is not too difficult to stop these programs if they know they are running. The other option is to secure your computer with an administrator password, and then use that password to manage the application that is monitoring their activity.
  • Responsibility Agreement. More parents are turning to alternative and modern methods of computer use management with children. We all know they are children, but at the same time they are being exposed to a huge amount of information and legalities while they surf the internet. Teaching them the importance of agreements by creating an agreement with them is an effective way to get them to understand them, and take them seriously.
Home internet management is a big issue for parents. Managing your computer use, will probably mean fewer problems. Children can be very good at installing the wrong software, corrupting your computer, and causing all manner of problems prompting your need for computer support. Luckily there are those professionals who offer monthly support programs aimed at offering reduced costs because you are a part of plan. One of these plans is highly recommended to anyone who has children using a computer at home.
