Laptop for Teachers (LT4T) Project by the DepED

Consistent with its vision of modernizing the teaching-learning process, the Philippines' Department of Education (DepEd) will be giving away laptop for teachers. This Laptop for Teachers Program is in line with the DepEd Computerization Program.

Objectives of the Laptop for Teachers Project(LT4T):
  • aims to improve the teaching and learning process of public schools through the integration of ICT.
  • to provide quality and affordable laptops for public school teachers at a low cost, within the requirements of the special provision of GAA.
  • to lessen the burden of manual/clerical work for public school teachers and increase their time efficiency
  • complements the DepEd Computerization Program (DCP) and the DepEd Internet Connectivity Project (DICP)
Target Beneficiaries of Laptop for Teachers Program (LT4T):
  • 492, 000 teachers
  • 50, 000 non-teaching staff
  • Over a 5-year period (2009-2014)
Hardware Specification of the Laptops:
  • Microprocessor: 2.26 GHz, 3MB L2 cache, 1066Mhz FBS
  • Memory: 2GB
  • Storage: 160GB 5400 rpm
  • Optical Drive: DVD-/+RW (SATA)
  • Operating/Application System:
  • Windows Home Basic (PPP SKU)
  • Windows Upgrade Perpetual VL Academic Edition
  • Microsoft Encarta Premium 2008
  • Opendesk
  • E-Forms
Software: OpenDesk
  • An open standard software that provides the teachers with digital tools and thinking framework in order to build a school-based model on how to shape the computer-based learning.
  • Includes study helper folder containing activities and games focused on the subject matter of writing, reading, mathematics, and science.
  • Includes applications for document authoring, multimedia authoring, file viewer, internet tools, digital safety, and teacher tools.
  • The applications of this software are free to use and free to copy.
  • Compatible with windows, Linux, and Macintosh desktop operating systems.
  • The software are free to download, copy, share, install, and use subject to the terms and conditions provided in the freeware and open source license.
Software: E-Forms
  • An excel-based application consisting of forms for the specific use of public school teachers.
  • It lessens the teacher's burden of clerical work.
  • It would facilitate the submission of forms, automate data generation, lessen time consumption, and standardize the appearance of submitted forms.

Training Programs:
  • Qualified teacher applicants for the program shall undergo trainings regarding the integration of ICT in their respective curricula.
  • This training includes the use of OpenDesk and E-Forms. 
The following are the criteria for qualification for teachers in Laptop for Teachers (LT4T) Project:
  • Must have passed the IC3 Certification Examination;
  • Must be a regular employee;
  • Must have a net take home pay not less than P4,000.00 before the laptop monthly amortization payment;
  • Will not retire in the next three years;
  • Must have no pending administrative charges with DepEd.
Document Requirement from Teachers to avail the Laptop for Teachers (LT4T):
  • IC3 Certification
  • Loan Application
  • Approved Loan Agreement
  • Deed of Conditional Sale 
 Updated info about the LT4T Project:
  • After 3 years or after the laptop has been fully paid by the recipient teacher, he/she will be the owner of the laptop, not dual ownership with the DepEd.(this is one of the questions answered by Dir. Soriano during the Orientation of Batch 4 & 5 of the DCP)
  • The recipient will pay only half of the total amount of the laptop. For example if the laptop is worth P30,000.00, if you are qualified in the program, you can have the laptop for P15,000.00 only.
  • Why not totally free? >>>So that there will be sense of ownership.
  • The partner computer company to provide the laptops will be Acer and Neo.
