Wii is pronounced as  /wiː/, like the pronoun we).

Wii is a home video game console released by Nintendo on November 19, 2006. As a seventh-generation console, the Wii primarily competes with Microsoft's XBox 360 and Sony's Playstation 3. Nintendo states that its console targets a broader demographic  than that of the two others. As of June 2010, the Wii leads the generation over the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in worldwide sales, and in December 2009 broke the record for best-selling console in a single month in the United States.

Wii is the latest games console from gaming giant Nintendo. Wii was released in the fourth quarter of 2006. Wii aims to change the face of gaming, with a revolutionary controller and new types of games Nintendo are hoping to attract gamers who have never previously played.

Also with its 'virtual console' software, Wii will be able to play games from previous consoles such as the original NES, Super NES, N64, Sega Genesis (also known as Mega Drive) and the TurboGrafix 16. This will allow older gamers to relive their favourite games. Gamecube discs will also be playable on the Wii.

Wii already has a strong lineup of games in production, with many more to follow. Familiar characters like Mario and Link will make appearances, as well as new franchises.

Instead of just focusing on better graphics like their rivals, Nintendo are focused on delivering an improved, fun playing experience with better interactivity. The Wii will also retail at a much lower price than the other consoles. All in all the Wii is an exciting breakthrough in gaming.

The Wii is a video game system made by Nintendo that has a unique interface that forces players to get physically involved in the game playing action. Unlike traditional video game systems that offer game play through a game pad or joystick with no physical interaction between the player and the game, the Wii requires the participant to move around to get the desired result for their game play.

The Wii not only allows game play from games on disc that are inserted into the unit, but the Wii is also capable of Internet access, which allows interactive play with anyone else on a Wii anywhere in the world and access to any of the Internet products that Nintendo offers for the Wii, which include games and networking functions.
