Hi all,

Today is an important day in the history of Mininova. From now on, we are limiting Mininova.org to our Content Distribution service. By doing so, we comply with the ruling of the Court of Utrecht of last August.

Unfortunately the court ruling leaves us no other option than to take our platform offline, except for the Content Distribution service. According to the verdict (Dutch link) we have to prevent uploads of torrents to Mininova that refer to certain titles or to similar-looking titles. We’ve been testing some filtering systems the last couple of months, but we found that it’s neither technically nor operationally possible to implement a 100% working filter system. Therefore, we decided that the only option is to limit Mininova to Content Distribution torrents from now on. We are still considering an appeal at this moment.

We launched our Content Distribution service in 2007. This service allows producers and artists to easily publish and distribute their content for free through Mininova. The launch of Content Distribution has proven to be a success. Countless content owners have used Content Distribution to distribute their content (e.g. albums and documentaries) for free to millions of users. For example, the Dutch band Silence is Sexy released their complete album on Mininova and received the Interactive Award 2009 for doing so. The Dutch television broadcaster VPRO decided to start using Content Distribution in 2009 in order to distribute documentaries.

Isohunt is a Canadian site that has earned the respect of P2P users everywhere. In spite of being sued by the Canadian Recording Industry Association, the Isohunt team continues to provide solid service and good torrents to the international community. While there are fake files that have polluted the Isohunt database, if you are careful to read the user comments on each potential download, you should have no problem filtering out the good torrents for yourself.
Entertane: another metasearch engine, Entertane will pore through other search engines on your behalf, and display the results in a framed interface for your easy browsing.
Demonoid.com have reestablished themselves outside of the USA as of spring 2008, and have resumed torrent operations. Demonoid is still a private community, and members are held liable for any leeching that their invited friends do in this community. If you are lucky enough to get a Demonoid membership, invite your friends carefully, lest you lose your own membership.
Alive Torrents Alive Torrents is a relatively new site. It focuses on torrents that have distinguished themselves as having a solid swarm base and an active readership. The torrent files you see here will reflect the most popular current searches today.
Torrentroot: as a metasearch engine, Torrent Root will pore through other search engines on your behalf, and display the results in a tabbed interface for easy browsing. WARNING: the Torrent Root web page has been attacked by scareware and phishing viruses. The webmasters at that site seem to have successfully purged that infection, but like with any P2P browsing: make sure you use a reliable antivirus like Avira to keep yourself safe.

yourBittorrent: a newer service, yourBittorrent has a clean and simple design and fast searching. Keep your eye on this site.
Thunderbytes: As of July 2009, Thunderbytes is a family-friendly site with content that is good for kids and parents.
Torrentbox.com FYI: like Isohunt, Torrentbox is being sued by the MPAA as of February 28, 2006. The days for this fine search engine may be numbered.
The Pirate Bay
April 18, 2009: the Stockholm district court has sentenced the four Pirate Bay founders to a year in prison, and over $USD 3.5 million in fines. This is as punishment for violating their country's copyright laws. More on this shocking court ruling here...
YouTorrent.com Still in beta testing format, this new torrent site claims to be the largest legal torrent search engine today. Accordingly, the result sets are much smaller than the "pirate" counterparts, but definitely try this site for yourself.
Zoozle.org: a competent German search engine for finding specific files, cracks, and serials.
Vertor: this torrent service claims to filter out bad torrents, viruses, DRM locks, passwords, and fakes. Many readers are pleased with Vertor, and thus far their service has been exemplary. Definitely give Vertor a try.
Torrent2crazy: this newer torrent site has a clean and uncluttered interface. It doesn't offer the user feedback system of Isohunt, but the torrent database is solid.
Torrentengine.co.cc: a very spartan-looking torrent engine, with very fast results and and icons that denote verified sources.
Torrentscan.com (a "meta-search" engine, which is a search engine that searches other search engines)
H33T: Don't let the plain site design fool you: this newer torrent site has gotten very positive reviews from About.com readers.
BiteNova (formerly known as "Bi-Torrents", BiteNova is a free Torrent site with a spartan look and fast searching format.)
Torrentreactor.to (Torrentreactor has made a comeback from a hijacking and an uncooperative hosting service. They have moved to a different server setup and a Tonga country domain outside the USA.)

Plentyoftorrents: this is a kind of launchpad search engine that offers choices where you want to search.
